Aiesec Where the Journey Begins
What is AIESEC? I had no idea what it
was till I found my friend would go to Russia for volunteering abroad. I said
omg it was so cool… after coming back from Russia, I came to her boarding house
and asked her to tell all the things she has done. I could not stop being
impressed and amazed. The most unforgettable thing is when she showed me Russian
chocolate and money. She gave me the chocolate but unfortunately she didn’t
give the money hahaha just kidding, her
story is really inspired me to do the higher or at least the same.
At the time, I start thinking why I
don’t know this cool organization, aiesec. I started looking for information
about aiesec. Aiesec is very beneficial for the young people. We can give
positive impact while developing our leadership skill and being a global
citizen.
When I was
arranging my final project, I found aiesec in unsoed opened winter volunteer
recruitment. I came to the stand excitedly. However, after passing some steps I
decided not to take this opportunity, because the financial problem. Aiesec is nonprofit and non-governmental
organization so you have to pay all the things by yourself and you will not get
salary because of volunteer program.
The aiesecer
(the global leader in a region or university) tried to push me to join they
also explain about the other internship aiesec program the internship program lets us to break the boundaries with amazing experiences and the salary as a bonus :D. We will work like the native citizen in abroad I opened my laptop and
tried to register myself on the internship program but there was no response
because aiesec unsoed hadn’t opened the internship program at the time. Then,
in august 2016 (I think this is a year duration after registering in aiesec indonesia)
this is 2 months after my graduation. There was someone from aiesec unsoed ask
me do you still want to join the first GT (global talent: internship) in
unsoed? I say of course yess..
I started
the process from September 2016 3 months after graduation. The flow is register
– drop CV - fill out some documents like motivation, strength weakness, skill
etc. - interview with aiesec unsoed (the aiesec nearest region)- make an
account in EXPA- interview with aiesec country - interview with the company –
go and feel the journey.
But it is
not as fast and easy as I imagine. There will be a lot of interviews, obstacles
and any other things that driving me crazy. However, the key to follow this
program is patient. I have applied 17 international schools in many countries
like Egypt, India, Malaysia, Turkey and even Russia. From 17 opportunities, 1
reject me directly without any process :D that is from turkey, then 1 from Malaysia
reject me after being interviewed by 2 people in charge, because they need
native English speaker. The rest of them
took very slow response. One of them delayed the interview for 7 times that
make me stress. Egypt gave me a hope, they make sure to have me in December but
suddenly they didn’t give further information. Thus, it makes me to move on. My
manager and the LC from unsoed also helped me to find the opportunity. They did
their best.
In December,
I decided to focus on one country, India because there are many opportunities
in education field there because basically I have passion and experiences in
teaching. *Before applying, make sure you have at least one experience in the
term and you must have passion regarding to the chosen opportunities.* I pray
to Allah swt to give me an easy
way if it is the best for me. He is kind after struggling and found difficult
to get it (I think that’s not good for me so Allah give me difficulties not
easiness) I have been interviewed 9 times totally and sent video 3 times. He
gives me easiness when I applied opportunity in Kakinada and Mumbai, India.
Both school's principal like me and accept me. We were confused which one to
choose. I got sick for a week because of stress :D Finally after discussing and
considering with parents, LC, manager and friends, I choose Mumbai. There, I will be an English teacher for speech and drama in RBK International School. It
is like a dream for me to have internship abroad. The key is we must keep
going on to reach our dream. Never give up because we never know when God will
give the best for us.
We have to be patient of something we have done, not something
that we don’t even start.
Sooo… the flow in joining this program is START – DO EFFORTS (if you fail
try and try again) – TAWAKAL (believe
that all results are the best for us)
That is a
very brief story about how to apply internship program in aiesec. If you want
to know the complete story and the process you may contact me and feel free to
ask anything :)
